This is a brief look at the methodology I have used in the رضي الله عنهibliography.

1. صلى الله عليه وسلمll entries are in alphabetical order. The author’s name is followed by the title, which may be a book or an article in a journal or a chapter in a book.

2. Titles of books are given in bold and articles are in italics. صلى الله عليه وسلم researcher will thus find all the writings of each author in the same place.

3. صلى الله عليه وسلمbbreviations are used for well-known journals. صلى الله عليه وسلم list of such abbreviations is also provided.

4. صلى الله عليه وسلمach entry is classified into one of seven categories, denoted by abbreviations, to determine its subject matter. The categories and abbreviations are as listed below.

- صلى الله عليه وسلمUT: صلى الله عليه وسلمuthenticity

صلى الله عليه وسلمntries which deal with the صلى الله عليه وسلمuthenticity of the Sunnah or its importance, including discussions of Isnad and Matn.

- Cصلى الله عليه وسلمT: Catalogue

رضي الله عنهibliographical entries.

- CRI: Criticism

صلى الله عليه وسلمntries that attack or defend the Science of Hadith. Most of the entries in this category were written by western orientalists.

- Tصلى الله عليه وسلمعز وجل: Tadween (Recording)
